VIAN – The Vian Wolverines (11-8) topped the Central Tigers (3-8) with big showings in the third and fourth innings.

After a shaky opening inning the Vian Wolverines settled down and fired up the bats to get the win in four innings.

Central opened the scoring in the top of the first when Connor Walters singled, and Cade Tucker walked to put two on with no outs. Vian pitcher, Riley Ellis redeemed the walk by picking off Walters at second base, but an error on a ball hit by Bo Locust allowed Tucker to cross the plate and give Central a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, the Wolverines opened with walks to Dreighton Fletcher and Mike Polecat. Fletcher got caught in a run-down at third base for the first out.

Cash Collins put Vian on top with a shot that cleared the left-center field wall for a 2-run homer and a Vian lead after one.

Things quieted down until the bottom of the third when Fletcher opened with a walk and singles by Riley Ellis, Collins and Gabe Gilbert gave Vian their third run of the game.

Central followed up with two consecutive errors off the bats of Lastyn Taylor and Garritt Hunt, and a single by Stryker Fields that gave the Wolverines a 7-1 lead.

The Tigers fourth started off promising with walks to Mekko Ariza, Hardy Buzzard, and Paitton Merrill to load the bases with no outs.

Ellis struck out Tigers pitcher Ryker Miller for the first out, and Vian ended the threat with a nifty Polecat to Taylor to Collins Double play to end the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Ellis collected the Wolverines second home run of the game with a liner that cleared the left field wall.

Collins and Gilbert followed with walks and Kaden Fulbright was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a Taylor strikeout Hunt and Fields were both hit by pitches to force in runs and a wild pitch scored Kaden Fulbright to end the game 11-1 via the run rule.

Ellis got the win for the Wolverines giving up just 2 hits and no earned runs while striking out 4 Central batter over the four innings. Miller took the loss for the Tigers giving up 7 hits, 3 earned runs and striking out just one Wiolerine.

Central will get back on the diamond Thursday at the Inola Tournament and No.14 ranked Vian will host No.17 ranked Haskell (7-2) on Friday.
