VIAN –  The Vian Wolverines remain undefeated at 12-0 and will be facing Colcord in the 2024 OSSAA 2A-II Semi-final next Friday night, after topping the Beggs Golden Demons 35-7 in the quarterfinal round.

Masyn Wright opened the scoring for Vian on an opening 80 yard , 17 play drive that ate up all but 1:34 of the opening period. Wright’s 6-yard rushing score was followed by a Mikaya Mendoza extra point for a 7-0 Wolverine advantage.

Wright managed 134 yards on 27 carries with two touchdowns for the game and leads the team with 32 rushing TD’s and 1,717 total rushing yards for the season.

On the Demons opening drive in the second period Tristan Wiley recovered a Beggs fumble at the 40 yard line and a few plays later Draighton Fletcher added to Vian’s total with a 3-yard touchdown run to put Vian on top 14-0 with 8:39 remaining in the half.

In the second half the Wolverines would score again when Wright scored his second of the night from the 3 yard line with 6:32 remaining in the third.

The Demons finally got on the board after a 53 yard pass play from Billy Ramsey to Jordan Wesley and a 5 yard rush by Trey Ross for the score to bring Beggs back to within two scores 21-7 after the Kevin Lira-Delgado extra point with 3:52 left in the third quarter.

Still in the third quarter, Cash Trammel connected with a wide open Jacob Brannick over the middle and Brannick went in for the score on the54 yard pass play to take the lead back to three touchdowns, 28-7.

Fletcher opened the final period with a 2-yard touchdown with just 3 ticks off the clock, to put Vian up 35-7.

Midway through the final period, the Golden Demons drove down to the Vian 3 yard line but were unsuccessful on 4 tries to cross the goal line thanks in part to a sack by the Wolverines Riley Ellis and a Beggs holding call on an apparent touchdown run.

Beggs totaled 10 infractions in the game for 90 total yards in penalties.

With the win the Wolverines (12-0) will take on Colcord (11-1) next Friday night in the semi-final round to be held at Wagoner at 7:00 pm. the winner will face either Stroud or Davis in the class 2A-II championship game to be held at the University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday December 7th at 1:00 pm.
