CHECOTAH – The Wildcats Defense turned it up a notch Friday night, holding the Stigler Panthers to just 6 points to notch their fifth win of the season.
After jumping to a 19-0 halftime lead the Wildcats (5-1) added to their total on a 60-yard touchdown strike over the middle From Cole Roland to Isaah Thomas.
The extra point try by Traegan Duvall was blocked and the score remained 25-0 Wildcats.
With 3:09 remaining in the third, Roland connected with Preston Cannon for an 11-yard touchdown toss to widen the Checotah lead to 31-0 with the game still in the third quarter.
The Panthers broke their drought with 11:40 remaining in the game on a fourth-and-seven from the 10-yard line on a scrambling touchdown over the left side by Jackson McCarter.
The 2-point conversion try was unsuccessful when McCarter was stopped short of the goal line and the score remained 31-6 early in the final period.
Stigler made a late attempt at another score with just 2:47 remaining on a toss from the 8 yard line on a pass to Jaxson Cardell but the toss was broken up by Shooter Eagleburger to turn the ball over to the Wildcats.
The final minutes of the game remained scoreless, and Checotah notched the win 31-6 for their fifth victory of the season.
The Wildcats will hit the road to Holland Hall (3-3) next Thursday while Stigler returns home to face the Eufaula Ironheads (1-5) in another district battle.
