WEBBERS FALLS – The Webbers Falls Warriors recovered from their season opening defeat Monday by topping the Arkoma Mustangs 8-4 in six innings.
The Warriors established an early advantage in the bottom of the first inning, as Thadan Yandell recorded a single that drove in two runs and Hayden Stephens contributed with a groundout, adding another run. Arkoma responded by taking the lead in the top of the third, capitalizing on a Webbers Falls error, followed by singles from Joshua Karich and Dakota Lanhamn to left field and a groundout by Alex Armstrong, each resulting in one run scored.
Webbers Falls reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the third inning; Yandell’s groundout and TJ Morgan’s single down the right field line each brought in a run.
Gunner Shelby was credited with the win for Webbers Falls Varsity Warriors, pitching four innings and allowing four hits alongside four unearned runs, while recording five strikeouts and issuing five walks. Brutus Robinson opened the game for Webbers Falls, throwing two hitless, scoreless innings with five strikeouts and two walks. For Arkoma, Kagen Lewis started on the mound and allowed three hits and eight runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking seven.
Trysten Wilbourn provided key offensive support for Webbers Falls, leading the team with three RBIs and going 1-for-3 at the plate. Yandell, Wilbourn, and Morgan each contributed a hit. Robinson drew three walks, leading the team, which collectively tallied seven walks. Roberts stole two bases as Webbers Falls accumulated four stolen bases during the contest.
For Arkoma, Karich led the offense with two hits in four at-bats. Lanhamn, Karich, and Jaxtyn Beaver each recorded one RBI. Salvador Vargas demonstrated discipline at the plate with four walks, contributing to the team’s total of seven.
The Webbers Falls Varsity Warriors are scheduled to face Porter in their next matchup on Thursday while the Mustangs remain on the road at the Braggs Wildcats on Tuesday March 10th.
