WARNER – The nightcap game of the 2024 Cherokee Classic was a game of surges Thursday night as the Warner Eagles took on the Eagles of Morris high school.

Warner jumped to an early 12 point lead in the opening period only to have Morris close the gap to 7 before the end of the frame.

In the second, Morris closed the gap even further thanks to contributions from Xavier Harjo (5 points) and Race Cosey with 6.

The game was within two points several times, but each time Morris would draw close Warner would widen the gap. By the half the teams were separated by just 4 points 28-32.

After the break it was a battle between Harjo and Warner’s Blake Ellis. Harjo knocked down three 3-pointers and a total of 15 points in the third.

Ellis proved deadly from the free throw line hitting eight opportunities along with one 2-pointer for a 10-point third quarter.

Ellis went 11-for-12 from the line for the game and the Eagles were 75% (24-for-32) overall from the charity stripe.

Ellis topped the scoring for Warner with 25 points, followed closely by Jaxon Cash with 23, and Jace Jackson with 15. Dee Antwine rounded out the scoring for Warner with 4 points.

Harjo was outstanding scoring 33, more than half of Morris’ 61-point total. Race Casey was also in double figures for Morris with 12 points.

Morris will move over to the Ronnie Hales Gym to take on Wilburton Friday night at 8:30, while Warner continues in the winners bracket against Keys in the Event Center.
