WARNER – The Defending state champion Rejoice Christian Eagles (9-1) Dominated play Friday night defeating the 1-9 Warner Eagles 70-0.
Rejoice started fast on their first play from scrimmage after a Warner punt return to the 2-yard line. The next play produced the games opening score on a sprint through the Warner line at the 2 minute mark by Noah Goodwin.
Just 3 minutes later The Rejoice Eagles intercepted a Warner pass at the Eagles 31. One play later a toss from Xavior Okwufulueze into the end zone produced their second score of the night, and a 14-0 Rejoice lead.
The state champs added another score after a punt return by Neil Leber put the ball on the Warner 3 yard line. On the next play Tristan Willis got in for the score and the rout was on with 4:32 still remaining in the first quarter.
Still in the opening quarter, with 1:53 left, Okwufulueze tossed another scoring pass for the Rejoice Eagles and a 28-0 advantage in the opening twelve minutes.
The second quarter was more of the same. After an Eagles punt, on the first play, Goodwin broke through the middle of the Warner line for a 59 yard gain to the half yard line and one play later it was Max Ichman for the score and a 35-0 lead.
On the ensuing kick the Warner Eagles muffed the kick-off and a Rejoice recovery put the ball at the Warner 12 yard line.
On the first play from scrimmage Okwufulueze scrambled into the end zone for a 42-0 Rejoice advantage.
The Champs were not done scoring yet in the opening half. Goodwin added his fourth of the night, on a 50-yard touchdown rush down the right side of the Warner defense. Duncan Andris, who was perfect on the night, added the extra point and the Rejoice Eagles went into the lockers with a 49-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, with a huge lead, Rejoice sent in the second team and still managed to put another 21 points on the scoreboard for the 70-0 win.
With the win, Rejoice will go into the OSSAA class A-I playoffs next week as the number 1 seed, and Warner will have to wait until next year, since the loss ended their season.
