WARNER – The Eagles added to the win column Friday night by defeating the winless Chouteau-Mazie Wildcats 43-20 to take their record to 7-2.

The Wildcats got on the board first at the 7:53 mark of the opening period on a touchdown run by Tayler Applegate from the 9 yard line, but the 2-point try by Destin Mccrary was unsuccessful and Chouteau led 6-0.

The Eagles notched their first points on the ensuing kickoff with an 82 yard return by Dee Antwine at the 7:36 mark of the quarter, but a sideline infraction by the Eagles took the extra point back to the 18 yard line. The resulting 35-yard extra point try by Talon Longshore was no good and the score remained tied at 6-6.

Late in the period, on a third-and-seventeen, Eathan Glover picked off a Chouteau pass and returned it to mid-field.

On the first play a nifty double-reverse and pass went for a Warner score, but the play was called back for an illegal forward pass when the toss from Glover to Austin Spradlin was ruled to be a forward pass before Spradlin sailed the ball to wide open Jaxson Cash for an apparent touchdown.

After the penalty and loss of down on a second-and 17, Lubbock Drake broke free down the left side of the Wildcat defense for a 57-yard touchdown run. A Cash to Memphis Swimmer pass was good for the 2-point conversion and the Eagles led 14-6 with 2:18 remaining in the half.

The Wildcats Gavin Graham got Chouteau back in the game with a rushing touchdown and 2-point conversion to tie the score at 14 with 6:59 remaining in the third.

With 0:32 remaining in the half, Antwine grabbed a low toss at the goal line and Cash got the 2-pointer on a keeper for an 8-point Eagle lead at the half.

In the third, it was Warner extending the advantage with a 35-yard touchdown toss from Cash to Swimmer at the 9:26 mark. A fake extra point resulted in another 2-point conversion on a toss from Cash to Daylon Morris in the back of the end zone to bring the score to 30-14 with 9:26 remaining in the third quarter.

Antwine added 6-points at the 3:00 minute mark with a nifty 45-yard scamper over the right side for a score, but an attempt at a 2-pointer failed and the score remained 36-14.

Chouteau added 6-points on an 8-yard run but the failed extra point attempt left the score at 36-14 with 8:36 remaining in the game.

The final score in the game came at the 2:00 mark when Drake broke through the Wildcat line for a 30-yard Warner touchdown. Longshore added the extra point for the 43-20 Eagle victory.

Warner will travel to Owasso next week to face Rejoice Christian in what could be a must win game to maintain fourth place in tightly contested class A-I District 4 to advance to the 2024 A-I playoffs.
