GORE – The Central Sallisaw Tigers dominated the Gore Pirates at K.G. Horn Stadium Friday night in a penalty filled contest on the Pirates senior night.
From the onset the Tigers controlled the line on scrimmage and shut down the Gore running game completely.
The flags flew for the entire 48 minutes of football between the rivals, in fact, in all four quarters there was just one series that did not have a penalty issued.
Central opened the scoring in the opening period at the 6:33 mark with a 10-yard pass to Ryker Miller for the first score of the game.
Jut two minutes Miller got free down the left side of the Gore defense for his second of the game and a 12-0 Tiger lead.
The Pirates returned the ensuing kick off 80 yards to the Central 11 yard line and Devon Mannon finished the drive with a 3-yard rush into the end zone with 1:38 remaining in the quarter to bring the score to 12-7 Central.
Gavin Randolph added to the Tigers total with 6:01 remaining in the half on a 15-yard touchdown toss from Kiefer Bailey. Another 2-point try was unsuccessful and the Tigers led 18-7.
In the second half the penalties continued to mount when a personal foul on the Pirates took the ball to the 2 yard line, and Miller ran for his third score of the night . This time the 2-point try was good and Central led 26-7 with just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The Tigers recovered an on-side kick at the 32 yard line that led to drive that ended with Miller’s fourth touchdown on the night, to put the game out of touch for the Pirates at 32-7.
But Miller wasn’t finished adding points for Central. His fifth touchdown of the night came on a 4-yard rush through the middle of the Gore line that completed the scoring at 38-7 Tigers.
With the win, Central’s slim playoff hopes remain alive while the Pirates will have to wait until next year since the loss eliminated any chance of a post season run.
