
FORT GIBSON- The Fort Gibson Tigers won their second game of the 2023 regional playoff series by defeating the Lincoln Christian Bulldogs 9-1 Friday afternoon.
The Tigers started early. In the top of the first a Cole Mahaney double scored Wyatt Pierce and Gannon Sherl to give Fort Gibson an earl 2-0 lead.
Weston Rouse shut down the Bulldogs in order in the bottom of the inning, but Lincoln Christian managed one in the second on a sacrifice fly to right that scored Connor Rowlett to bring the game within one run.
The Tigers added 3 runs in the third with singles by Pierce and Sherl along with a Nic Tolbert double to put them up by four 5-1 after three innings.
In the Fort Gibson fourth, Hunter Branch led off getting hit by a pitch followed by a Pierce bunt down the 3rd base line.
Landon Nail singled on a bunt to the pitcher Tyler Johnson that scored Pierce and Branch caught the Bulldogs napping and scored behind Pierce for a 7-1 Tiger lead.
Nail scored on a pass ball later in the inning to put the Tigers up by 7 runs 8-1 after four.
A Nail single in the sixth scored Pierce who had singled earlier in the inning to cap the scoring at 9-1 Tigers.
Rouse went the distance for Fort Gibson allowing just 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 12 batters over the seven innings.
With the victory Fort Gibson is just one win away from a regional title and qualifying for the final eight in the State tournament.
