CHECOTAH- The Checotah Wildcats and the Sallisaw Black Diamonds squared off in the 2025 opening competition in a scrimmage at Checotah high school Friday night.
It started with each team running 4 sets of 20 plays from the 40 yard line then after a short break they brought out the chains and ran 3, 12 minute quarters with a running clock.
In the opening part of the scrimmage, Sallisaw scored the first two touchdowns in their first and second 20 play set.
The Wildcats hit paydirt twice in their second set of 20 to even things up.
Both teams scored in the third set of plays and the opening part of the scrimmage ended up even.
After the chains came out the play took on more of a regular game look. With the Black Diamonds putting up the first score to take a brief 7-0 lead.
The Wildcats tied things up shortly thereafter at 7 all, but from that time on it was all Black Diamonds, scoring four more times before the session would end.
Being like a typical pre-season, players were difficult (if not impossible) to identify since jersey numbers we not all the same as the regular season numbers, and almost all players got a look from the coaches to get ready for the opening games next week.
Checotah will open at home next Friday against the Okmulgee Bulldogs, and The Black Diamond will be on the road at Pryor to take on the Tigers.
