SALLISAW – Homecoming night was a bit of a disappointment at Sallisaw Friday night as the Black Diamonds fell to the Broken Bow Savages 56-14.

Broken Bow started the scoring early on their opening series on a drive led by Sophomore quarterback Greydon Howell with a 21-yard touchdown pass to  Dejhaun Hall with 8:50 remaining in the first quarter.

Sallisaw responded with a drive of their own that began at the Savages 47 yard line. On fourth down and 4, Jackson Harris connected with Caleb Hightower over the middle for a 42-yard touchdown toss.  Brian Castor added the extra point and the score was tied 7-7 with over 5 minutes still remaining in the first.

A 30-yard return by the Savages Jaqob Champagne set up the next Broken Bow drive at the Sallisaw 43.  After a holding call set the Savages back to the 47, Howell broke loose over the middle for a 34 yard gain, and three plays later, he got to the the goal line as the period ended.

On the second play of the second quarter, Howell took it himself on a scramble to the left side of the end zone to put Broken bow back on top 14-7 early in the second.

The ensuing Sallisaw drive ended at the Savages 44 when they turned the ball over on downs.

Howell hit pay dirt again with a 14-yard Quarterback keeper and the Victor Silva extra point extended the Broken Bow lead to 21-7.

A Broken Bow sack and a fumble turned the ball over to the Savages at midfield and Howell connected with Hall again, a few plays later, from the 8 yard line to give the Savages a 28-7 advantage with under a minute left in the half.

In the second half, The Black Diamonds started with the ball and added to their total with a 37-yard Broque Oft run for a score to close the gap to 14-28 with 9:25 remaining in the third quarter.

Broken Bow came right back on their ensuing drive with a 10-yard touchdown run by Quinlan Bailey to put it back to a three score game 35-14 Broken Bow.

Sallisaw was held scoreless for the remainder of the contest, but Broken Bow went on to score three more times with a 16-yard keeper by Howell, and another on a Howell 53-yard run that split the Sallisaw defense, and the final score by Cole Patrick from the 2-yard line.

With the loss Sallisaw will drop to 4-1 and will travel to McLain next week to take on the 3-2 Titans, and the Savages (4-1) return home to meet Stillwell (1-4).
