KEYS – The Keys Lady Cougars came out strong in the first quarter, establishing an early lead over the Quinton Lady Savages. The Cougars’ offense was spearheaded by Payton Zodrow and Elizabeth Holland, who combined for thirteen of Keys’ 15 points in the opening eight minutes. Zodrow displayed her excellent shooting skills, scoring key baskets, while Holland’s agility contributed significantly to the team’s early success. By the end of the first quarter, Keys held an early 15-11 lead over Quinton.
In the second, the Lady Savages closed the gap and showed their 3-point shooting skills with Bailey Nester, Quinton’s 3-point ace, hitting two threes and Alexis Purdom netting one. The Savages came back to lead the game by one point 24-23 at the break.
In the third, Quinton added to their lead outscoring the Lady Cougars 12-11, but it was still anybody’s game with Quinton clinging to a slim 36-34 advantage after three.
In the final period, Purdom and Nester managed the scoring chores once again with Nester scoring 7 points and Purdom netting 6. Nester had 16 points total and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final period. Purdom also had a 16 points total.
In all, the Lady Savages had ten 3-pointers, 7 of which came from the Purdom and Nester.
For the Lady Cougars, it was Payton Zodrow leading the way with 14 points, Holland with 13, and Paizlee Zodrow also in double figures with 12 points.
The Lady Cougars (18-5) will be right back at it Tuesday night when they host Howe (17-6) and Quinton (17-8) will be off until the Class A playoffs begin next week.
