WARNER – The Warner Lady Eagles (3-0) stay perfect with Thursday’s win over the (0-2) 5A Poteau Lady Pirates.
It was another hot, hot contest this time at 104 degrees, but the temperature didn’t slow down the Lady Pirates or the Lady Eagles. The girls went the full seven innings, with Warner coming out on top.
The Lady Eagles struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Addison Upton put down a sacrifice bunt to bring in a run for a 1-0 Warner lead.
Poteau’s Moriah Painter singled down the right-field line in the top of the fifth for the Pirates, tying the game at 1-1.
Warner answered in the bottom of the fifth when Sophomore catcher Paisley LaBounty homered to left field, driving in two runs. Bailey Hughey then grounded out to extend Warner’s lead to 4-1.
Ella LaBounty started in the circle for Warner, allowing six hits and one run over the seven innings. LaBounty struck out 7 Lady Pirates and gave up no free passes.
Freshman Blakely Hunt took the circle first for Poteau, giving up four hits and two runs, only one earned, in four and one-third innings. The Freshman hurler struck out four and allowed no walks.
Eagles Leadoff hitter LaBounty paced Warner with two hits in three at-bats.
Painter drove in the Lady Pirates’ lone run, finishing 1-for-3. Braelieh Isbell went 2-for-3 to lead Poteau in hits. Isbell and Emma Walker each stole multiple bases. The Pirates totaled four stolen bags for the game.
Warner Lady Eagles will travel to face Stigler Lady Panthers on Monday, while The Pirates remain on the road to face the Hartshorne Lady Miners and Howe Lady Lions in a 3-way contest tomorrow.
