
MUSKOGEE- The Muskogee Roughers (3-2) came into Tuesday afternoon with an unblemished record, but that all changed after the Ponca City Wildcats (6-1) defeated the Roughers in both ends of a double header 8-5, 7-0.
The opening game of the day started out to be a back and forth affair with Muskogee scoring in the first and the Cats answering in the top of the second. The Roughers opened it up a bit in the third inning scoring 3 runs.
Alexandria Stewart started the rally with a single to right field. Jaliyah Simmons followed with a free pass and Jaye Barnoski reached on an infield single to load the bases.
It all happened quickly from there with a Kambri Johnson single scored Stewart, Simmons also scored on the play and Barnoski advanced to third.
Muskogee than blew an opportunity to score additional runs in the inning when a Lariah Stewart bunt failed to score Barnowski who was out at the plate and Stewart was cut down advancing to second ending the inning.
Ponca City responded in the fourth. With two outs it started with a fly ball by K Elliott to left fielder J Maxwell, who had sun trouble allowing the ball to drop scoring M Blackstar. A Zimmerschield followed with a single scoring Elliott.
A Varner followed with a single. M Litlecook hit a fly ball to left and Maxwell muffed another chance allowing Zimmerschield and Varver to cross the plate giving he Cats a 5-4-lead.
The Roughers started their fifth with a single by Gabbi Davis and Kyra Rowland. With two outs Stewart also singled to score Davis and tie the score at 5 all.
The Wildcats went on to score one run in each of the last three inning to end the scoring at 8-5 in favor of Ponca City and give Muskogee their first blemish of the season.
- Meyer went the distance for the Cats getting wins in both the first and second game of the double header allowing 5 runs on 11 hits in the opener and just 3 hits for a shutout in the nightcap.
