VIAN- Michael Polecat took to the mound for the Vian Wolverines Monday and shut out the Central Sallisaw Tigers 6-0 in a game that was closer than the score.
Polecat started the scoring for Vian in the bottom of the first with a single that scored Draighton Fletcher for a 1-0 Wolverine lead.
After Vian’s early score, both pitchers took over the game for four consecutive innings with no scoring for either squad.
The Tigers’ Hardy Buzzard kept the Wolverines scoreless for through the fifth inning allowing just two hits over the four innings. The Lefty Buzzard allowed just 5 hits for the game, striking out three and walking three Vian hitters.
An error filled sixth inning for the Tigers sealed the deal for Vian who scored 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The first Tigers miscue came off the bat of the Wolverines Drake Collins with an error in center field that scored Manny Terrill, Stryker Fields and Polecat.
The next hitter Jeremiah Marshall reached on an error by second baseman Aiden Sainer that scored Collins for a 5-0 Wildcat lead.
The final score of the inning and the game came off a double by Chris Cheater that scored Marshall for the 6-0 Wolverine win.
Sainer let the Tigers with two of the seven Tiger hits. Both Sainer and Ryker Miller notched doubles in the game.
For Vian, Polecat was the only Wolverine with multiple hits (2) while Riley Ellis and Cheater both hit doubles for extra bases.
Vian (2-3) will be right back at it Tuesday when they travel to Pocola (1-0), and Central (2-2) returns home Tuesday to take on Gore (3-0) in a contest that begins at 4:30 pm.
