GORE – The Gore Pirates captured the Riverside Conference title with a convincing win over the Porum Panthers Friday Afternoon.
The Pirates started early in the first with an opening single by Jackson Duke. A later error by Panthers shortstop Mikey Wright on a ball hit by Gabe Dozier, loaded the bases. Gunnar Dozier singled to right scoring Duke and Ben Kirkpatrick to put Gore up 2-0 with two outs.
Blaine Barnes followed with a single that scored Gunnar Dozier and the Pirates finished the inning leading 3-0.
In the top of the fourth Porum got on the board when Pirate Catcher Dane Perryman attempted to catch Gage Scarberry stealing second with two outs, allowing Rylind Tillery to score for the only Panther run of the game.
The Pirates got that run back plus on back-to-back singles by Blaine Barnes and Lane Ward before a Scarberry error on a dropped fly ball to center scored Barnes.
Hunter McGee walked before a Gabe Dozier single brough McGee for a 6-1 Pirate lead.
Porum went down in order in the fifth and the Pirates would add on in the bottom of the frame to end the game by run rule.
Gunnar Dozier opened with a walk followed by a Barnes single. Ward reached on an error scoring Dozier and moving Barnes to third. Lane followed with a single scoring Barnes. Duke was intentionally walked before a Hunter McGee single scored Lane and Ward and ended the game by run rule 10-1.
The win gave Gore the Conference title going 3-0 over the two day tournament.
Gunnar Dozier got the win for the Pirates giving up just 1 hit and allowing no earned runs over the five inning contest. Isaiah Sallee took the loss for the Panthers.
