WEBBERS FALLS – The Gore Pirates (5-3) never trailed Thursday night when they defeated the (3-5) Webbers Falls Warriors 67-51.
The Pirates opened the game in the first quarter scoring 18 points to lead after 8 minutes 18-11, a deficit that Webbers falls could never make up.
Cain Cooper and Eli Munson combined for 13 of the 18 Gore opening quarter scores, Munson with 7 points and Cooper with 6.
Webbers Falls had 5 players scoring baskets in the first period, but Webbers Falls trailed by 7 points, a gap that they would never make up.
The Warriors closed the gap to 5 points at the half trailing 32-27 going into the lockers.
The Warriors scoring leader at the half was Thadan Yandell 9 points, and the Pirates top men were Cooper with 12 points and Munson with 10, including two baskets from beyond the bonus line for 3-pointers.
After the break, the Pirates took control scoring 18 points in the third to just 7 by the Warriors to open up a 40-23 lead after three.
It was Cooper again topping the charts for Gore with 8 points in the third. Cooper ended with a team high 27 points on the night.
Tate Brooksher go hot in the second half scoring 9 points for a game total of 14. Munson finished with 12 and Aabe Hefley was also in double figures with 11 points.
For the Warriors it was Thadan Yandell on top with 17 points, and Brutus Robinson with 13. Robinson scored 12 of his total all from long range for 3-pointers, three of which came in the final period.
The Pirates will have a rematch on January 13th when the two teams meet again at Gore.
The Warriors will be busy over the Holiday break with a meeting the 14th ranked B2 Braggs Wildcats on the 6th of January, and a tournament series at the Arkansas River Shootout January 8th thru 10th.
