Gore- The Gore Pirates got on the winning side of the board Friday night with a convincing win over the Chouteau Wildcats 42-6.
After a scoreless penalty filled first quarter, the Pirates struck first on their opening play of the second period.
Bladin McCartney took it to pay dirt on a run up the middle for 4 yards and a touchdown with just 6 ticks off the clock for a 6-0 Gore lead.
On the ensuing drive, the Wildcats got down to the Gore 10 yard line but were stopped by a stiff Pirate defense.
The Pirates responded with a drive down the field to the Chouteau 29 yard line where McCartney broke free up the middle for the Pirates score and a 12-0 lead with 1:58 remaining in the first half.
Before the half would end the Wildcats made it a one score game when Kayden Atkins broke across the middle for a touchdown on a 53-yard scamper with :46 left on the clock to get Chouteau within 6 at 12-6 Pirates.
The Gore defense stopped Chouteau’s opening drive in the second half, and on the opening play from scrimmage, #59 rushed for 42 yard gain to the Chouteau 25.
With 5:15 gone in the third quarter, Zach Comer took it to the house with a 15-yard scamper up the middle for the Pirates score. The 2-point try was good when McCartney broke into the endzone for a 20-6 Gore lead.
Still in the third quarter it was Comer again, this time from the 15-yard line, and a Gore score. He also broke through the middle to add the 2-points and a 28-6 Pirate lead with 2:15 remaining in the third.
Before the period would end, McCartney tacked on another from the 28 yard line to give the Pirates a 34-6 lead after three quarters.
In the final eight minutes, Comer broke through the Wildcat defense again for 18 yards and a touchdown, and a 15 rush for the extra two to make it 42-6 Gore.
After a Bye week next week, the Pirates will hit the road to Mounds on the 26th, and Chouteau will tee it up again next Friday when they remain on the road at the Salina Wildcats.
