Gore – With 7:36 remaining in the opening quarter the Gore Pirates got behind the Talihina Tigers 6-0 but it took just two and a half minutes for the Pirates to score a touchdown and convert a 2-point extra try for a 8-6 lead with 5:08 remaining in the first.
From that point on it was all Pirates. Before the dust settled in the opening quarter Gore had stretched that lead to 10 points at 16-6 and by the half the Pirates had built an unsurmountable 37-6 advantage going into the locker room.
It appears that the loss of 21 seniors from the 2022 season has not affected the Bucs scoring abilities and they have taken charge in 2023.
The second half was more of the same for Gore scoring two more touchdowns to the Tigers one that came with 7:14 remaining in the third quarter.
Tate Brooksher led Gore as he tossed two touchdown passes, one to Journey Shells for 20 yards and the other to Hunter McGee for 30 yards. He also added a rushing touchdown from 40 yards out. Blaiden McCartney added a 15 yard touchdown run and as a team the Pirates (4-0, 1-0 District A-8) intercepted the ball three times, including a pick six by Ayden Cox.
With the win the Gore Pirates, now 4-0, have outscored their 2023 opponents 152-19 and have set the tempo for what appears to be another strong successful season in OSSAA Class A.
The Pirates will travel to Canadian next week to take on the Tigers (1-2) who fell to Pocola 64-0 in their District opener. Talihina returns home to play Panama (2-2) who were successful vs. the Porter Pirates in their district debut.
