GORE – The Gore Pirates started off on top 3-0 after one inning but faded badly dropping their opener to the Talihina Tigers 12-5.

Hunter McGee made the most of his first at bat of the season with a 2 RBI triple to give the Pirates an early lead in the opening inning. Madden Smith followed with a grounder that scored McGee and Gore was off and running early.

That lead would last until the top of the third when the Tiger rebounded, scoring 5 runs in the inning.

It started with two consecutive walks by Pirate pitcher Smith to Cy Ammons and Kaden Cossey, followed by a Landen Griffith single and a Bobby Burns Double to tie the score at 3-3.

A wild pitch scored Burns and a Jacob Lawson double scored Jake Sherer for a 5-3 Tiger lead after four innings.

In the bottom of the fifth McGee timed up a Kaden Cossey fastball with one on and sent a shot over the left-center field wall for a two-run homer to bring the game back to within a run at 6-5.

In the top of the sixth, the wheels fell off for the Pirates. Tate Brookshire, pitching in relief of Smith, walked the bases loaded to start the inning.

A Burns pop to left was mishandled scoring a run, another walk scored a run and a hit batter yet another run to make it 9-5 Talihina.

With McGee now pitching he hit two consecutive Talihina batters scoring another two runs, and an error in left on a dropped ball ended the 6-run Tiger rally.

McGee held the hot bat for gore going 3-for-4 with a homer, a triple, and a double for a 4 RBI game.

Griffith, Burns and Sherer each notched two hits for the Tigers with Burns leading the way in RBI’s with 3.

The Tigers will remain on the road when they travel to Kiowa Monday, and the Pirates will go to Porter Monday to challenge the Porter Pirates and then host Porter Tuesday in a home and home series.
