GORE – The Gore Pirates breezed to their fifth win of the season by defeating the Liberty Tigers Friday night in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
The Pirates opened the scoring early in the first at the 4 minute mark with a 21-yar rushing touchdown by Bladin McCartney to give the Pirates an early 6-0 lead.
Before the opening period ended Devon Mannon ran one in from the 15 yard line and McCartney tacked on the 2-pointer to take it to 14-0 Pirates at the half.
In the second half early in the third quarter, Mannon and McCartney teamed up again for 8-points to take the Gore total to 22 points.
Shortly thereafter, Liberty got on the scoreboard with a 65-yard bomb by Casen Briscoe to Carson Reeder to bring the score to 22-8, after Briscoe and Reeder hooked up again for the two-point conversion.
From that point it was all Pirates. Ayden Cox drove one in from the 1 yard line to make it 30-8 after three periods.
In the final quarter McCartney tacked on two more tallies for his second and third touchdowns of the game to top out the scoring and give the Pirates the 42-8 win.
