SALLISAW – The Stigler Panthers (5-2) steadily pulled away from the Sallisaw Black Diamonds (4-4) at the Paul Post Field House Tuesday night. Sallisaw rallied back in the final period but fell just short 56-54 in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

The Panthers led by just 2 points after the first quarter but increased that advantage to 5 points by the half.

It was 8 points by the end of the third, but the Black Diamonds were saving it up for the final eight minutes when they erased the Stigler lead with just over a minute remaining.

With the game up for grabs it was the Panthers who outlasted Sallisaw in the final minute to take home the 2-point victory.

The Panthers Hunter Self was the top scorer of the game with 28 total points, 10 of which came in the opening quarter. Self scored 24 points from close range and hit 4-of-7 from the charity stripe.

Jayden Gould was also in double figures for Stigler with 16 points 9 coming from beyond the bonus line for 3-pointers.

Cooper Cox was high for the Black Diamonds with 15 points and was the only Sallisaw player in double figures.

Kenyan Hall just missed double digits with 9 points, and Wes Rodriguez had 8 on the night.

The Panthers will be off until January 9th when they travel to Pocola, and the Black Diamonds will compete in the Armstrong Bank Sequoyah County Tournament that opens the day after New Year.
