GORE– The No. 1 Okay Mustangs polished their defense and had it on full display Saturday night defeating the Red Oak Eagles 54-43 to capture the OSSAA Class A Area 4 Regional Title.

It was a defensive game from the start with both teams scoring just 8 points in the opening period. The Mustangs full court press, along with not allowing Red Oak to get inside to score, forcing the Eagles to shoot from long range, resulting in an Okay halftime lead 22-18.

The Mustangs managed four 3-pointers in the second period, Two by Diezel Davis and one each by Ashton Walters and Tito Ramos.

Chase Clark took over the scoring for Okay in the second half scoring 17 points in the third and fourth periods, including two 3-pointers and going 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Clark was top scorer for the Mustangs with 21 points followed by Davis with 17.

For the Eagles Denver Durant totaled 11 points for the game followed by the big man 6’-7” Adam Fenton with 9 points. Fenton was hampered by an Okay defense that was successful keeping the ball outside, limiting his scoring ability under the basket.

Both teams will head to the Area portion of the tournament next week, February 22nd-24th at the Mvskoke Dome. Okay will open against Riverfield Friday at 7:30 with the winner advancing to the State Tournament, and the loser moving to the consolation bracket

The Eagles will face Stonewall Thursday at 2:30 in a must win game if they hope to advance.
