SALLISAW – The Sallisaw Black Diamonds (19-9) slugged their way past the Hilldale Hornets on Monday afternoon with a Brock Streun dinger in the sixth to put Sallisaw ahead for good.

The Hornets weren’t left behind on the long ball game thanks to Arkansas Razorbacks commit Cole Leach who put two over the right field fence in the third and fifth innings that were good for a 5 RBI day.

The Leach homer in the third scored Gavyn Heppel and Jace Hannon, and the one in the fifth also had Hannon on the base pads for a 2-run no-doubter that cleared the right-center field fence with ease.

The score was knotted until the bottom of the fifth inning when Streun homered to center, scoring Braxton Lamb for an 8-6 lead and the Black Diamonds never looked back.

They would go on to tack on three more before the inning would end for the 11 run total. The Hornets got one back in the top of the seventh inning, but it was too little, too late.

In all, there were 11 pitchers used by both teams (5 for Sallisaw and 6 for Hilldale) B Parker took the loss for the Hornets giving up 5 runs on 5 hits all in the fifth inning. K Adams got the win for Sallisaw giving up 1 run on just 1 hit while striking out for Hornets.

The win was Sallisaw’s third in-a-row and the loss broke a 4-game Hornets win streak as both teams head for district games later in the week.
