FORT GIBSON- The Lincoln Christian Bulldogs (21-13) shut out The Holland Hall Dutchmen (20-11) 14-0 in their opening round of the 2023 OSSAA regional playoffs.
After a scoreless opening three innings the Bulldogs rallied in the fourth scoring 6 runs on four hits.
Tyler Johnson started the inning off with a walk and was move over to third by a double off the bat of Connor Rowlett.
With Cooper Jobe at the plate a dropped third strike resulted in Bulldog run and moved Rowlett to third and allowed Jobe to reach and eliminate the strikeout.
J Divine followed with a single to left that scored Rowlett to give Lincoln a 2-0 lead and advance Jobe to third.
After a walk to Kylan Schultheis, Jack Milligan doubled to left scoring Jobe and Divine taking the lead to 5 runs.
A wild pitch to Malakai Dillard scored Schultheis and a Dylan Baldridge single brought Milligan a crossed the plate to cap off the 6-run inning.
In the sixth, Lincoln Christian would add on 3 more with just two hits, both singles, by Dillard and Milligan aided by 2 walks, and error and a hit batsman to put the Bulldogs up by 9 runs.
More fireworks were yet to come in the seventh. Dillard doubled to score Schultheis, and Baldridge and Johnson went back-to-back over the wall for homers. Dillard’s shot went over the highest part of the center field wall and Johnson cleared the left field fence.
The final run came on a walk to Divine forcing home Connor Rowlett for the 14th and final run of the contest.
With the win Lincoln Christian will face the Fort Gibson Tigers in game two to see who goes into the semi-final unscathed.
The Dutchmen will have to face the Mannford Purple Pirates (14-18) in a “must win” third game of the day to see who moves on to Saturday’s games.
