SALLISAW –  The Lady Black Diamonds met a worthy opponent Tuesday night in the Lady Yellow Jackets of Westville and came away with a 3-point victory.

Westville opened strong taking a 5-point lead after the opening eight minutes with sisters Brooke and Piper Blackburn accounting for 18 of the lady Hornets 20 point first quarter total.

Brooke ended up being the top scorer for Westville tallying 18 total points on the night.

Sister Piper was right behind with 11 total points, 8 of which came in the opening frame.

The Lady Diamonds, who trailed at the half, stiffened the defense in the second and third periods and allowed just 17 points over that span, while scoring 29 points to pull out to a 9-point lead in the third.

Kayli Macon accounted for 9 points in the third period to spark the Lady Diamonds rally. Hannah Palmer was top point getter for Sallisaw with 13 points, followed by Macone with 12 and Emma Martin who also had 12 points.

The Jackets made a push in the fourth to get the score back to within 1point, 51-50, but with under a minute left in the contest, the Sallisaw defense stiffened, and Westville was forced to go to the foul game.

At the 12 second mark, the Jackets Amrie Gregory made a 3-point attempt from the left corner, but the ball hit the rim and was rebounded by Sallisaw to protect the win.

Westville will return home to face the Kansas Comets on Friday, While the Lady Diamonds head to 5A Claremore for a 5:30 tip off.
