WEBBERS FALLS – The Hulbert Riders ran over the Webbers Falls Warriors 17-3 in five innings topped off by an 11 run fifth inning.
Mistakes in the opening inning led to a 3-0 Rider lead after one at bat. After an Ethan Thompson single the mistakes began to happen early for Webbers Falls.
A simple bunt turned into three bases. An overthrow at first ended up with Thompson scoring and Jarrett Crawdord standing on third base.
The first pitch to Dusty Tedder was mishandled by the Warriors catcher, scoring Crawdord and the Riders were off to a quick 2-0 lead.
The Warriors problems persisted with catcher Trysten Wilbourn allowing 3 pass balls in the inning and pitcher Ryan Cowan hitting two Hulbert hitters.
Thompson struck out the side for the Riders in the bottom of the inning and it was 3-0 after one.
It was more of the same for Webbers Falls in the second with Cowen walking two batters before Tedder teed off on a shot over the left field war for a three run homer and a 6-0 Hulbert lead.
Cowan managed a one-two-three third for the Warriors with a strikeout and two fly balls.
In the bottom of the frame, Webber got on the board when a Gunner Shelby single and two stolen bases led to a run after a Aiden Turley single scored Shelby to put Webbers Falls on the board.
Turley made his way to third and crossed the plate on a pass ball by Riders catcher N Hubbard to bring the game to within 4 runs at 6-2 Hulbert.
Everything quieted down until the top of the fifth inning when the wheels fell off the Warriors wagon.
Shelby came in in relief for Cowen and had serious control problems, hitting seven Hulbert batters in the inning, allowing 6 runs to take the Riders lead to 15-2.
Luke Pierce took over for Shelby in the last of the inning and he hit yet another batter to allow a run and a Zane Nolan error in left scored the final run in the inning before the inning ended to take the score to 17-2 Hulbert.
The Warriors went on to score a single run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 17-3, but the mercy rule ended the game with Pierce popping up to first baseman Ty Wynn.
Hulbert (6-1) will be back at it Tuesday when they return home to take on the Porter Pirates (4-7), and Webbers Falls (2-5) takes on Talihina.
