Braggs- As the great Yogi Berra used to say “It ain’t over till it’s over”. That certainly applied Friday night when the Schulter Bulldogs took on the Watts engineers in a semifinal District contest at Braggs.
Schulter trailed by as many as 17 points in the third period but came back to tie the score at 59 late in the fourth. With both teams struggling to break the tie it wasn’t until there were just 2 seconds on the clock when the Bulldogs’ Brayden Brown put up a shot from mid-court that found the mark to give Schulter the 62-59 come from behind win at the buzzer.
The Engineers were not without their top performers. Skylar Payne accounted for 25 of Watts Points, scoring 14 in the first half to help lift the Engineers to a 7-point 30-23 halftime lead. Byron Sands was also in double figures for the game with 16 points.
The Turnover bug that bit the Bulldogs in the first half disappeared in the second, yet they still trailed 46-38 after three quarters. It was Brown that came alive in the final eight minutes scoring 15 points in the final session to lift Schulter to the 62-59 win.
Brown totaled 37 points for the contest with Quinton Nuckells also in double figures with 12 points.
Schulter (10-7) will move on to face tournament favorite Braggs (22-1) Saturday night at 7:30. Watts was eliminated and will end the season with a 6-11 record.
