GORE- The Gans Grizzlies closed out 23-12 victory via the run rule in the fourth inning at Gore Tuesday afternoon.
The Grizzlies opened up with 13 runs in the first three innings and the Pirates could only answer with 6 in that same span. Paige Curran opened the scoring for Gore in the bottom of the second, scoring on an infield grounder by Sophie O’Connor for the Pirates first run of the game.
Gans poured it on in the top of the third scoring 5 more runs to take a commanding 13-1 lead.
The Pirates came back in the bottom of the frame scoring 5 of their own. The inning started with a free pass to River Shoemake. Natalie Csateel then reached on an infield error. Curran doubled to right scoring Shoemake and Casteel, but Curran got caught trying to stretch a double to a triple and was cut down at third.
Cadi Shoemake then singled to left and advanced to second on a steal and over to third on a wild pitch eventually stealing home to bring the score to 13-4.
O’Connor followed with a single to right scoring Kennedy Williams and Kendra Huckbay scored on an error on a pop fly off the bat of Emily Daily to make it 13-6 Grizzlies.
The big blow came in the top of the fourth for Gans when they scored 10 runs in their half of the inning via mostly Pirate pitching errors. Walks, wild pitches and hit batters were accompanied by Gore errors in the field and put them behind the 8-ball 23-6 going to the bottom of the 5th inning.
The Pirates responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning but that was not enough, and the “Run Rule” ended the game at 23-12 after 5 innings.
The Pirates (1-5) will remain home to take on Holdenville Friday afternoon
