VIAN – The Warner Eagles (8-3) swept the Vian Wolverines in a two game series Monday afternoon with a convincing 6-1 victory.
Jace Jackson went the distance for the win allowing 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 6 batters. Connor Collins took the loss for Vian. Collins went six innings and allowed 5 runs on 10 hits striking out 7 Eagles.
Warner got on the board early in the first inning after Adam Thompson opened with a double to left and moved to 3rd on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Jackson. Wyatt Hamilton followed with a walk, and eventual steal of 2nd, before Austin Spradlin singled to score Thompson and Hamilton for a 2-0 Warner lead.
Kaleb Spradlin followed with a double to left scoring Austin to add another run before Austin Duke strikeout to end the inning.
It wasn’t until the top of the 3rd when after a Kaleb Spradlin triple to right-center, he scored on a wild pitch by Collins to make it 4-0 Warner.
In the 6th, Adam Thompson added to the Eagles lead scoring on a wild pitch to Caden Thompson.
In the bottom of the inning the Wolverines would get on the board. Dreighton Fletcher opened with a double to left and advanced on a Brandon Redburn infield grounder. Diego Ramos followed with long fly ball to center that scored Fletcher for the first and only Vian run of the game.
Warner answered in the top of the seventh with a Hamilton walk followed by an Austin Spradlin single moving Hamilton to 2nd. Cole Mayfield singled to left scoring Hamilton for the sixth Eagle run.
Adam Thompson had the big bat for Warner, going 3-for4 with two doubles and scoring two runs. Cash Collins was the only Wolverine with multiple hits going 2-for-3 for Vian.
Warner will stay on the road and travel to # 3 Oktaha (10-2) Tuesday afternoon while Vian (10-5) travels to Central Sallisaw (4-7).
