WARNER – The Keys Cougars took charge from the opening tip off and never trailed topping the Eagles of Warner 47-43 in the regular season finale at the Warner Event Center.
The Eagles had opportunities throughout the contest but were unable to connect on several shots from the floor. Trailing at times by as much as 13 points the Warner rallies brought them to within 5 points several times, but they were unable to seal the deal.
It was the opening period that doomed Warner as the Cougars opened with a 22-9 first period lead that the Eagles could never totally recover from.
It was Jaxon Cash and James Jones that tightened up the score a bit in the second quarter with each notching 7 points as the Eagles outscored Keys 17-12 in the second quarter to go into the lockers trailing by just 8 points 34-26.
Each team upped their scoring in the third quarter tallying 22 points each. Joe Green led the way for the Cougars with 8 points in the third, half of which came from the free throw line. Green was 9-for-eleven on the night from the charity stripe.
Colt Ward took advantage of the Eagles attempt to close the gap by fouling to regain possession in the final period by hitting 9-of-10 from the charity stripe. For the game, Keys was 20-for-23 from the line while Warner managed just 13-for-21.
The Eagles hit for twelve 3-pointers, 3 each from Ryland Cash, Kade Fowler and Colt Thompson, two from James Jones and one by Jaxson Cash.
Jones and J. Cash were the top scorers for Warner with 22 points each, with R. Cash close behind with 18 points.
For the Cougars, Ward and Green were the high point men with 21 points each.
