VIAN – The Central Tigers were relentless Monday afternoon in downing the Vian Lady Wolverines 14-2 with a steady production of runs.
It all started early for Central when after a Allie Harris single Ayrland Jiles put one over the right field fence off a Kala Gibbons fast ball to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the first.
In The second, Central added three more with singles by Camryn Gillam, Brianna Taylor, Keeley Poindexter, Harris, and Jiles to put Central out front 5-zip.
In the third, with the Wolverines still scoreless, Brenleigh Allen led off the inning with a single for the Tigers and later scored on an error by first baseman Hanna Mattingly. Riley Roland then crossed the plate on a pass ball to give Central a 7-0 advantage.
Vian finally got on the board in the third after a Rebel Simon triple led to a run when Gibbons hit a grounder to short for the RBI sacrifice. Vian went on to score again after a second triple in the inning, this time by Mattingly, scored Rayleigh Terrill to bring Vian within 5 runs 7-2.
The big explosion came in the top of the fourth when four Tiger hits, a walk and two Vian errors led to a 7-run inning for Central, and a commanding 14-2 lead.
The Wolverines effort in the bottom of the frame came up empty and the game ended via the run rule after 4 innings.
Gibbons allowed 11 hits over the four innings while striking out six Central batters. B Allen got the win for Central dishing up just three hits and striking out three Wolverines.
Vian (10-12) will come right back Tuesday vs Cave Springs, and Central (13-14) will return home to take on Arkoma (2-15) 0n Thursday.
