BRAGGS – The Braggs Wildcats won the B-II Area 4 District 1 title Friday by Defeating the Bluejacket Chieftains 62-47.
Speed was the factor for the Wildcats who outpaced the Bluejacket on both offense and defense.
Braggs jumped to a 20-14 lead after the opening period led by Hazen Edwards who scored three times from beyond the bonus line for a 9-point first quarter total. Daryl Winter added 7 points in the first period.
Colton Cochran and Braxton Harris provided most of the points for the Chieftains with Harris scoring 6 points and Cochran 5 points.
The second quarter brought foul troubles for Bluejacket. The Chieftains sent Braggs to the line 8 times where they were 5-for-8 to add to their 15-point second period total and a halftime advantage of 35-21.
After the break it was more of the same. The Wildcats hit 7 times from the floor to Bluejackets 4 to outscore the Chieftains 15-10 in the third.
Harris top the scoring charts for Bluejacket in the final period scoring half of the Chieftains points 16 points. Harris was the top scorer for Bluejacket notching 20 points for the game.
The Wildcats were led by Barr Jaynes and Edwards each with 19 points and Winter close behind with 18 for the game.
With the win, No.15 Braggs (13-9) will move on in the winners bracket to face No.14 Paden who were 18-8 this season next Tuesday night.
Bluejacket will move to the consolation bracket where they will challenge Mason (6-19) with the loser being eliminated from the tournament.
