WEBBERS FALLS – The Braggs Wildcats will be in the Championship round of the Arkansas River Classic Saturday night by virtue of an outstanding 57-42 win over the Class A Dewar Demons.
Braggs came out swinging from the opening tip off, showing off their speed and shooting accuracy.
Daryl Winter led the Wildcats in the opening session with 10 points in the first quarter all from close range. Hazen Edwards added 5 points in the first including a 3-pointer.
In the second all the points came from the outside. Winter had 1 long range bucket along with Edwards, and Burr Jaynes added 2 all from beyond the bonus stripe.
The Dragons Joseph Moore and Stanley Yeager put up all Dewar’s points in the second, Moore with 6 and Yeager with 5, but the Dragons trailed 19-30 at the break.
The second half was a bit closer with Braggs outscoring Dewar 27-23, although the Wildcats went into a stall game early with over 4:30 left on the clock.
The Dragons Yeager and Moore scored the lion’s share of points in the contest, Yeager with 23 and Moore with 14 points.
Winter, Edwards, and Jaynes provided the scoring for Braggs, Winter with 21, Edwards with 15 points (4 from downtown) and Jaynes 12 points on the night.
The Wildcats will face the Whitesboro Bulldogs Saturday night at 7:30 which promises to be the match up of the tournament.
