Sallisaw – What started out as a defensive contest turned into an offensive show by the Sallisaw Black Diamonds as they blew by the Stilwell Indians 41-17 in front of a packed house.
With 1:59 remaining in the opening period the Stilwell Indians took a 3-0 lead on a 25 yard field goal by Chalino Martinez but that would be the last time they led in the game.
Just four seconds into the second period senior Cole Stephens scampered in from the 4 yard line on a keeper and a Brian Castor extra point gave Sallisaw a lead they would never relinquish.
With starting quarterback Brock Streun sidelined Sallisaw facilitated the combined services of Jackson Harris, and Stevens in the wildcat as the signal caller slot.
Stephens ran in for his second of the night from the 9 yard line with 4:19 remaining in the half and added yet another from the wildcat slot at the 42 second mark for his third of the game and a 21-3 Sallisaw lead at the half.
After a Stephans fumble a Juan Nartinez to Tray Chuculate short pass in the third gave Stilwell their second score of the night on a one-play drive to get the Indians a bit closer at 27-10.
Stephans wasn’t done scoring for the night, a 38-yard screen pass on 4th down from Harris resulted in his fifth touchdown of the game with 1:24 still remaining in the third quarter.
Another short touchdown pass from Martinez to Chuculate at 11:26 of the fourth gave Stilwell their 17th point of the night, but Stephans went 33 yards over the right side for his sixth touchdown with 5:59 remaining to end the scoring.
