SALLISAW – It didn’t take long for the Black Diamonds to go on top of the McLain Titans, and they never looked back.
Special teams were outstanding, blocking 3 Titan punts and taking advantage of each one, turning them into points.
A steady drive in the first quarter resulted in a 27-yard touchdown for Jackson Harris on a scamper through the middle of the Titan’s defensive line with 9:40 remaining in the period.
In the second it was Kase Adams to Keaton Brant at the goal line for an 8-yard touchdown toss and a 14-0 Diamonds lead. Brant was hit at the 1 yard line but forced his way in for the score, with 6:44 remaining in the half.
The ensuing Titan possession ended on the 34 yard line where they were forced to punt, and Cade Austin Tate broke through the line to get the first of 3 blocked punts on the night.
That put the Black Diamonds at the McLain 16 yard line. Three plays later Adams took it in himself from the 3 and it was 21-0 Diamonds.
On a 4th and 23 Hunter Smith joined the block party for Sallisaw with the second blocked punt of the night. Sallisaw took over on the Mclain 16.
After the blocked kick, Adams added to the Diamonds score with an 11-yard touchdown toss to Brodi Nichols with just 49 ticks left in the opening half to take the score to 28-0 at the break..
In the third quarter, McLain’s Chief Selfridge got the ball in the end zone with 3-yard touchdown dive to get the Titans on the board with 4:14 left in the third period.
On McLain’s next drive Sallisaw’s Caden Blount blocked the third Titan kick of the night and took over on the 10 yard line.
Two plays later Harris added his second touchdown of the night on a run from the 3 with 2:27 left in the third to take a 28-point lead 35-7.
In the fourth quarter Harris would add his third of the night on an 8-yard dash into the right side of the end zone to take the score to 42-7 Diamonds.
Luke Bob Warner added a 22-yard field goal with 2:13 remaining to make it 45-7 Black Diamonds.
On the Titans next series, the ball was stripped and recovered by Levi on the Titans 26 yard line to give the ball back to Sallisaw who ran out the clock for the win.
Sallisaw (5-1) will host win less Glenpool next Thursday night, and the Titans (4-3) will host 5-1 Poteau.
