SALLISAW – A Jackson Harris to Cooper Cox pass in the left flat sent Cox down the sideline 40 yards for the opening score of the game Friday night on the way to their 24-13 win over the Savages. Brian Castor added the extra point for a 7-0 Sallisaw lead with 5:26 left in the first quarter.
In the Black Diamonds first possession of the second period Harris was picked off at the 36 yard line by the Savages Kyran Whitfield who returned the ball to the Black Diamond 37.
On the ensuing drive on 3 down and 6 to go QB Kaden Hobson mishandled the hand off and the fumble was recovered by Kash Keepers to give the ball back to Sallisaw.
On a third down from the 50 Harris connected with Max Stump on a 38 yard toss down to the Savages 12 yard line, but the drive stalled at the 6 yard line and Castor added 3-points with a 24 yard field goal to make it 10-0 Black Diamonds with 4:56 left in the half.
Broken Bow answered before the half with an 8-yard scamper by Winfield to get the Savages back to within 3 points 10-7 at the half.
The Diamonds would strike first in the second half on a toss for Harris to Braxton Lamb for 6 points and with Castor adding the extra Sallisaw went back on top by 10 points 17-7 with 4:41 left in the third.
In the fourth quarter a Harris to Lamb toss came up just a yard short, but Harris crossed the line on a “tush push” from the 1 on the next play. Castor added the extra to make it 24-7 with 3:12 left on the clock.
The Savages went on to score one more time on the last play of the game with just one tenth of a second left on the clock to end the game.
The Black Diamonds (4-2) will travel to Hilldale (3-3) to take on the Hornets and the Savages (1-4) will remain on the road at undefeated Poteau (6-0).
