Gore- The Webber’s Falls Lady Warriors came on in the final inning Wednesday night to get past the Gore Pirates 7-6 in a hard-fought contest.

It was three up, three down until the bottom of the second when Karli Springer doubled off Webbers pitcher Wyatt, bringing home Harley Welch to open the scoring for the Pirates. That lead would last until the fourth when after a Shanks double, Pense beat out a bunt to pitcher LeeAnna Barns that would score Shanks to tie the game.

In the bottom of the inning, after back-to-back singles by Springer and Barns, the Warriors had trouble handling a bunt by Ralea Brookshire. Barns was caught at the plate but on the unsuccessful throw-back to second trying to catch Brookshire, Springer was able to scamper home to score for the Pirates who took a 2-1 lead.

With two outs and two strikes on Sabra Palmer, a wild pitch allowed Brookshire to cross the plate before Palmer went down swinging to end the inning.

In the top of the sixth, after a trio of singles by Pense, Wyatt and Carter, Raskey and Patterson both doubled giving the lead back to the Warriors 4-3. The Pirates were not to be denied. In the bottom of the frame singles by springer and Kara Brimm and a triple by Brookshire gave the lead back to Gore wo were up by 2 going into the seventh.

The big blow came in the top of the seventh when with two-on and two-outs, trailing by two, the pitcher Wyatt sealed the deal for the Warriors by going yard to left-center for a three-run homer to put Webber on top by a run.

The Pirates managed two singles in the bottom of the inning, but it was not enough to score the run and the Warriors held on for the 7-6 victory.

The two teams may meet this weekend during the three-day, twelve school Gore tournament being held at Gore high school Thursday thru Saturday.
