GORE – The Gore Pirates Trailed visiting Porter by 1 at the half, but a strong second half won them a district title.

In a low scoring opening the Porter Pirates led the game for most of the first half. Mason Plunk accounted for 11 of the Pirates 15 first half total. Plunk contributed all but 7 Porter points finishing with 24 points.

Just seventeen seconds into the second half the home-standing Pirates took over the lead and went on a 9-point run to put them in front 23-15.

The blue Pirates (Porter) had something left in the tank and responded with an 8-point run of their own to tie the score at 23 with 2:11 remaining in the third.

From that point on it was all Pirates in green. Jaxon Duke started the rally with six consecutive points for Gore to take them to a 30-23 advantage after three periods.

The final eight minutes went to the home team outscoring Porter 14-11 in the final session for the 44-31 victory and the District-8 Title.

Noah Cooper top the score sheet for Gore with 12 points, 7 of which came from the foul line. Ben Kirkpatrick was next with 11 and Duke finished with 6 points.

Porter will still continue in the playoff series in the consolation bracket. Their next opponent will be Regent Prep to be played back at Gore next Thursday at 3:00.

The Pirates will play at home Thursday night against Liberty at 7:300 pm.

From that point the tournament bracket will move to Indianola for the conclusion of the regional portion before moving to Wilburton for the Area finals.
