WARNER – The game was much closer than the score as the Lady Eagles (5-17) went six strong innings before succumbing to Mounds 13-6 Thursday night.

It was probably one of Warner’s better outings with J Foreman holding the Mounds Golden Eagles (10-15) to just three runs thru six innings. Sharp defensive play added to Foreman’s efforts along with strong bats in the 4th and 5th innings that had Warner up 6-3 going into the final stanza.

The Golden Eagles who had not hit the ball solid all night suddenly found the range in the 7th and the comeback began. Cooper Romo, first up, led off with a single. Alexa Wilson bunted safely to third flowed by a solid line drive to left by Adria Boydston that scored Romo.

Still with nobody out Anna Green walked to load the bases again. Following a strikeout by Warner, Megan Marsh singled to center scoring Wilson to bring the score within one.

The Key moment of the game came when Hannah Basham popped out to Foreman for the second out and Marsh was caught too far off first base. Foreman threw to first to double up Marsh and end the game, but the throw was low and did not get handled, allowing Boydston to score and tie the game.

From that point on the rout was on. Three consecutive his by Jordan Patrick, Mia Perez and Romero followed by a walk to Wilson made it 9-6 with two outs but the Golden Eagles weren’t done yet.

Boydston doubled followed with a single by Green to bring the score to 13-6 before Sophia Abbott popped out to second to finally end the inning.

After the onslaught Warner went down one-two-three in bottom of the frame and had to settle for what might have been had that throw to first been just a wee bit higher.
