
VIAN – After a defensive opening half where big plays topped the scoring, The Vian Wolverines (7-2, 6-0) opened up the play on the Prague Red Devils (8-1, 5-1 ) scoring four touchdowns for a 40-19 Win and a stronghold on first place in OSSAA 2A-5.
The Red Devils received the opening kickoff and Joe Fixico opened the scoring taking it to the house to give Prague a very early 6-point lead.
On The Wolverines first possession, on the second play from scrimmage Vian got into the end zone on a big rushing play but the play was called back on a holding call.
Prague took over and on their second play of the drive, a fumble recovery by Masyn Wright went for a scoop and score to tie the game at 6.
With 7 minutes remaining in the half Diego Ramos found DeSean Mays with a long pass for a Vian score to give the Wolverines a 12-6 halftime lead.
After the break, Vian’s opening possession resulted in a punt and on the ensuing possession the Red Devils’ QB Aiden Auld went in for a score on a QB keeper, and after the successful kick, Prague took their only lead of the night at 13-12.
Just 1 minute later, Ramos connected with Jacob Brannick for a score to retake the lead 20-13 following a successful 2-point conversion.
After an exchange of possessions, the game suddenly took an offensive turn. With just 2 minutes remaining in the third quarter, Trevor McGinnis rushed for a Red Devil, but the 2-point try failed and left Prague trailing by one point 20-19.
Before the end of the quarter ended, with less than 1 minute remaining, Ramos connected with Mays for yet another Vian touchdown that gave the Wolverines a 26-19 lead going into the final period.
Just 1 minute into the final period Ramos found Nathan Creasey. Creasey made an eye-popping, one-handed 50-yard reception that went for the score. Creasey also caught the 2-point effort to make the score 34-19 Vian.
On Prague’s next possession, Rex Gieser, in for the injured Auld, was picked off by Mays for a pick 6. The conversion failed. Which made the final score Vian 40 – Prague 19.
With the win the Wolverines took the lead in 2A-5 and gained a strangle hold on the division title.
The Wolverines will finish their regular season next Friday at Sequoyah while the Red Devils return home to take on Okemah.
