
WEBBERS FALLS – The Webbers Falls Warriors opened their invitational tournament Thursday with a 6-1 win against the Arkoma Mustangs.
A Warrior error in the top of the first inning allowed an unearned run and put Arkoma in the lead. That lead held up until the bottom of the 3rd inning when errors, mistakes and Warrior bats contributed to a six run inning for Webbers Falls.
Gunner Carey opened the inning with a single to left. Carey went on to steal second and third before scoring on a wild pitch by Mustang pitcher Klay Brinkley. Isaiah Terrell, who got on on a Brinkley error, advanced to third on the same pitch.
Maddux Shelby followed with a single, scoring Terrell. BBen Ward then singled to right scoring Shelby putting Webber on top 3-0.
Still with no outs, Braydan Robinson grounded to third on a fielder’s choice advancing Ward to 3rd. Stryker Chappell followed with a walk before Elliot Kunkel grounded to short scoring Ward on another fielder’s choice.
Preston Rowe followed with a single advancing Chappell to 3rd to put two runners on with two outs. Blaze Herriman then doubled to the gap in left center, scoring Chappell and Rowe, but Herriman was caught truing to stretch to third for the final out of the inning.
Due to time restraints all games were shortened to five innings. Arkoma failed to score in the fourth. After the Warriors went down one-two-three in the bottom of the frame, Arkoma with their final at bat managed a single in the top of the 5th, but were kept off the scoreboard and the game ended 6-1 in favor of the Warriors.
Ward got the win for Webbers Falls going three innings, allowing just one hit while striking out 5 Mustangs. Brendon Goodman came in to clean up the last two innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 2 batters. Brinkley went the distance for Arkoma allowing 6 runs (only 2 were earned) on 5 hits while striking out 1 and walking 1 Webbers Falls batter.
Play is scheduled to resume Friday and Saturday in the eight-team tournament.
