KEYS –  The Lady Cougars (2-4) shut out the 4-5 Riverfield Ravens 2-0 Friday afternoon for their second win of the season.

The Keys girls have been coming close and just falling short in two of their four losses, falling to 4A Sallisaw by just 1 goal 2-1 and a tough 2-1 overtime loss to Locust Grove earlier this week.

Today’s contest was a defensive affair with most of the game being played between the 30 yard lines.

The Lady Cougars held the Ravens to 0 shots in the first half and just 1 shot on goal in the second half.

Elizabeth Holland opened the scoring for Keys with a rush from the 35 yard line and a shot that got bye the Riverfield keeper at 18:36 of the opening half to put the Cougars up 1-0.

In the second half it was not until the 22nd minute that the Ravens finally got their first shot on net that was stopped by Keys net minder. A few minutes later, a free kick from the 35 went just high and hit the crossbar keeping Riverfield scoreless.

Holland struck again with 8:24 remaining in the game to stretch the Cougar lead to 2-0. Just a few minutes later she was denied the hat trick twice with shots that went off the post.

The Lady Cougars will be back at home Monday in an afternoon contest with Regent Prep (2-2) that will begin at 2:00 pm., and the Ravens return home to Tulsa to take on Inola (6-5) Tuesday evening at 5:00 pm.
