VIAN– On Tuesday afternoon, the Oktaha Tigers (6-5) took command late to defeat the Vian Wolverines (10-8) 7-2 in a tightly contested game.
Oktaha got on the board in the first inning after Carter McKinzie tripled, scoring one run.
The Tigers scored two more runs in the top of the fourth on a home run to center field by Nic Tolbert.
Conner Ward earned the win for Oktaha allowing seven hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking two.
Mike Polecat took the loss for Vian Varsity Wolverines. The pitcher went five and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking seven.
Tolbert led the Tigers with two runs batted in. The shortstop went 2-for-4 on the day. Tolbert and Lastyn Taylor each collected two hits for the Tigers.
Oktaha had patience at the plate, collecting nine walks for the game. Luke Edwards led in that category with three.
The Tigers were active on the base paths, collecting 10 stolen bases for the game. Luke Edwards, Connor Casey, McKinzie, and Taylor each stole multiple bases.
Chris Cheater, Vian Varsity Wolverine’s number eight hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats while Riley Ellis and Draighton Fletcher each drove in one run for Vian.
Oktaha Varsity Tigers play at home on Thursday against the Wilburton DIGGERS in their next game and the Wolverines remain home to take on an Arkansas squad from Prairie Grove.
