The afternoon began just as expected. Set one of the FHSAA Semi-final match was a barn burner. When the dust settled the Mitchell Mustangs edged the Sunlake girls 28-26 in an overtime thriller. The second set belonged to Mitchell from the onset. With a 25-13 victory The Mustangs took a two set advantage on the afternoon. Set three got close at 13-13 until the Mustangs pulled away for the 25-17 win and a three set sweep. With the victory they will go on the road to face New Smyrna Tuesday night for the regional title. Sunlake’s effort was lead by Seniors #12 Kelsey Riquelme with 7 kills and 2 aces and Cathrine Parbel with 6 kills. Mitchell stats were not available at press time. Congratulations to the Seahawks for a great season and best of luck to the Mustangs in their quest for a State title.

Lady Eagles Bid Ends in Quarterfinals.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Lady Eagles hadn’t seen the state tournament for 20 years prior to 2023. The Howe Lady Lions made it a short trip defeating Warner 64-43 Tuesday night at the Fairgrounds Arena.

The usual Warner sharp shooting from 3-point range was absent and the smothering defensive game was penetrated by the Lady Lions.

After a close opening eight minutes that saw the Lady Eagles up by as many as 8 points that advantage withered away and turned into a Howe lead by halftime.

The second half was more of the same with the Lions taking advantage of their lead and out-rebounding Warner on both the offensive and defensive boards until the lead became insurmountable midway through the third quarter.

We would like to congratulate the Lady Eagles on a fine season and are definitely looking forward to next year.

With only one senior the Lady Eagles will be back next season and will surely be ranked in the top ten and hopefully make another run at the golden basketball in 2024.
